Seattle City Light (“SCL”), a publicly owned utility with a portfolio of over 2,000 megawatts of generation, has implemented the Power Settlements’ SettleCore Visual Analytics Module for real-time profit and loss (“PNL”) reporting and post-analytics of both individual plants and a portfolio view. Visual Analytics allows SCL to analyze CAISO Energy Imbalance Market (“EIM”) and internal data including base schedules, 15-minute market schedules, real-time dispatch, meter, imbalance energy deviations, LMPs, generation cost pricing, and profits and losses in a single graphical interface. This out-of-the-box module also includes the EIM Benefits counterfactual shadow calculation to compare to the CAISO’s published EIM Benefits numbers. SCL uses the SettleCore – Settlements Analyzer Module for drilling into the CAISO-published settlement statements, billing determinants, and invoices and to analyze differences between settlement statement versions.

The SettleCore Visual Analytics Module is a dashboard that displays the customer’s EIM PNL and dispatch data components in a single screen, for analysis of either the current day’s real-time data or historical days (post-analytics). This module graphically displays the EIM’s many data sources, including ADS, BSAP, CMRI, Master File, OASIS, OMS, and SIBR data in a single screen. The customer’s internal PI or SCADA meter data is imported to enable the near real-time display of imbalance energy (uninstructed deviations), and a calculation of the customer’s PNL in the EIM.

Mitch Kunstel (Power Marketer) and Nhung Mach (Strategic Advisor) at SCL said the following about the benefits provided to SCL by the SettleCore system: “Power Settlements SettleCore system has enhanced the analysis and operation of Seattle City Light’s Power Marketing Division. As a new EIM participant, SCL has leaned on the SettleCore Visual Analytics tool to identify Master File enhancements, CIDI ticket submissions, training opportunities and participation strategies for our Traders. In addition, the CAISO Settlement Analyzer and EIM Shadow Benefit calculation have been instrumental in validating Settlement statements and CAISO quarterly benefit numbers. SCL highly recommends working with the Power Settlements team; they are a superior vendor that exemplifies customer service and support.”

“We are pleased to announce that Seattle City Light is now live on the SettleCore platform. SCL relies upon the Visual Analytics Module’s single-screen dashboard for monitoring their real-time and historical performance in the EIM. More than 75% of all of the CAISO EIMs have implemented the SettleCore – Visual Analytics Module, and we are excited to now support SCL. We welcome SCL as one of our customers and look forward to providing superior support to them for many years to come,” said David Dan, CEO of Power Settlements.
