San Francisco has Successful Go-Live of the Power Settlements Energy Trading and Scheduling Solution with CAISO Integration and Settlements
San Francisco Public Utilities Commission (“SFPUC”), the City of San Francisco, CA’s municipal power utility that provides for municipal city loads and owns and operates the 400 MW Hetch Hetchy hydroelectric system, has successfully implemented the Power Settlements SettleCore™ solution for their Energy Trading and Risk Management (ETRM) and ISO needs.
San Francisco was looking for a single vendor with both ETRM and ISO bid-to-bill functionality. After looking at several top named vendors, San Francisco selected the Power Settlements SettleCore solution to meet their requirements of: deal entry, portfolio validations, scheduling submissions, the enforcement of their risk management policies for counterparty credit limits and trader limits, as well as full functionality for their scheduling coordinator in the California ISO (CAISO), including bid/offer submissions to their scheduling agent, all of their ISO data downloads, full shadow settlements and validations, Real-Time Visual Analytics, and reporting.
“We were impressed with Power Settlements’ single solution software that supports straight-thru-processing of our energy trading and scheduling, credit and risk management, and ISO activity. We were looking for an established vendor with a solution to meet our current needs and accommodate our future growth and Power Settlements’ large customer base and extensive knowledge of the CAISO market were key factors in our vendor selection decision. We are thrilled that Power Settlements implemented the SettleCore solution on time and on budget. Now that we are in production, we are very pleased with the high level of support and attention that their staff provides”, said Data Systems Manager, San Francisco.
“There are a lot of public power utilities that are looking for a vendor with a single system to meet both their bilateral and ISO transaction needs. We are extremely pleased with San Francisco’s vote of confidence in Power Settlements. We are pleased to have completed the entire SettleCore implementation of ETRM with integration to multiple internal systems and full CAISO integration, exactly on schedule and exactly on budget. More so than just the implementation, we look forward to providing superior support to San Francisco for many years to come”, said David Dan, CEO of Power Settlements.
About San Francisco (SFPUC)
The San Francisco Public Utilities Commission (SFPUC) is the City’s municipal power utility. We also provide electrical services to select local residential and business communities. We own and operate the Hetch Hetchy Power System, San Francisco’s clean energy backbone and the source of our power. The Hetch Hetchy power network supplies clean energy to all of San Francisco’s municipal facilities, services and customers, which includes SFO, SFGH, MUNI, Police, Fire, retail City tenants, residences and businesses in the San Francisco Shipyard, Treasure Island and more.
The Hetch Hetchy Power system is composed of three hydroelectric powerhouses with a combined total hydroelectric output of nearly 400 megawatts. This clean energy is transmitted to San Francisco along City-owned transmission lines that transverse the State of California from east to west. Inside San Francisco, the SFPUC also generates over 10 megawatts of clean, renewable energy from San Francisco’s 19 solar arrays and 2 biogas cogeneration facilities.
We are the third largest municipal utility in California, serving 2.6 million residential, commercial, and industrial customers in the Bay Area. Approximately one-third of our delivered water goes to retail customers in San Francisco, while wholesale deliveries to 26 suburban agencies in Alameda, Santa Clara, and San Mateo counties comprise the other two-thirds.
